Show President

President of Tockwith Show

The new President of Tockwith Show is local businessman Derek Walker whose company – Leading Solvents – is based at Marston Business Park in the village, and was one of the first businesses to be involved in the sponsorship of the event more than thirty years ago.

Derek has been a regular visitor and helper at the show and says he has seen quite a few changes over the years. “It’s certainly got bigger, but I’m glad to say It has still retained a lot of the values that has made it such a successful and important community event.

“I think it’s really important that it acts as a showcase to let local people understand the importance of the farming industry – it’s a fun day out for the family, but hopefully there’s also an education element in all of the activities”

Derek has taken over as President from Michelle Lee. “Being President of the Show has been a fantastic honour and I have enjoyed every minute of my time. I hope Derek gets as much out of it as I have.”

Each year the President selects a charity to support in his role, and Derek has chosen The Yorkshire Swan Rescue Hospital which is a registered charity operated by dedicated volunteer rescuers and veterinary surgeons for the rescue, treatment and eventual release of injured swans and wild animals across Yorkshire.

Derek said he believed it was an important charity to support. “Where I live I often see the swans coming past and they are beautiful birds but we have been hearing a lot recently about incidents of cruelty and it’s really important to help provide a secure breeding programme for them and I’m hoping the money we raise will help ensure that happens.”
