Presidential Changes

For the 2018/2019year Tockwith & District Agricultural Society would like to welcome Dee Alton as our new president. Dee was elected at the recent society AGM and is pictured below receiving the ceremonial crook from the outgoing president. The president\’s charity for the 2019 year is Cancer Research UK

A message from Dee.

I first attended Tockwith Show in 1959 when I rode Miss Machin’s pony, Silver. Miss Machin lived in Hunsingore in those days, but later moved to Moondale Stud, Crossgates Farm where she bred ponies. Sixty years later I am honoured to be the President of “the greatest little show in Yorkshire” which enjoys its permanent show ground on the land which was Miss Machin’s.
Thank you all for this honour. I will try to support the show to the best of my abilities. I have chosen Cancer Research UK as my charity for the year. Both my parents died from cancer, and I suspect that most of us in our villages have been affected in some way by the disease.
I am looking into organising a progressive coffee event to raise funds for the charity, and also to spread friendship throughout our community. More details to follow in the new year. Edward and I are hopefully hosting a BBQ in the summer to achieve the same goals.
I finally would like to pay tribute to Fiona who has handed the President’s Crook to me! Fiona has been a brilliant President and is going to be a hard act to follow. well done Fiona.

An update from the outgoing president:

It has been an amazing year and I am truly thankful to the directors and committee for asking me to be this year’s President. I was immensely proud to take up the role. And as always, the support from the committee has been superb! It is a true pleasure to work alongside people who are committed to making things happen, with the minimum amount of fuss.
The weather on show day couldn’t have been better. It was delightful to meet with regular show attendees, family, friends and prize winners on the day, but what gave me greatest pleasure was speaking to those that hadn’t been to the show before and who had such a wonderful day that they will be back again next year. This is true testament that the show committee are doing a great job!
My chosen charity for the year was the British Heart Foundation and with the support of the committee, my family and BHF fundraiser, Stephanie Jones I have sold lots of household items at the car boot and donated larger items directly to the BHF store, held a quiz night, a raffle, taught Pilates and cycled from Bramham to Bridlington solo. These efforts along with the charity auction at the show and other donations from Sam & Steve’s talks have raised an amazing £4,743 for British Heart Foundation. Thank you to everyone that has helped to make this happen.
I have now signed up as a volunteer for British Heart Foundation to further spread the word of the amazing research they are doing and the CPR education programmes they are running.
The Presidential crook has now been handed to Dee Alton who I hope will enjoy the position as much as I did. I know she will be fabulous President for the 2019 Tockwith Show.
