Offas\’s Dyke Day 4

Breakfast at the Half Moon was fine. We had  quick look around the Llanthony priory which is also a hotel. They appear to have built the hotel into the ruins of the priory. In the spirit of walking the complete track we decided to take the track back to where we had left the path the day before. Others were taking a short cut from the village and getting back on to the ridge at least 2 miles further on. The day before had been windy with no visibility. Today was clear and once we got up to the ridge extremely windy. It was a struggle just to get a jacket on. We had the gale force winds for the next 7 miles and we were extremely happy to eventully start the descent off the ridge. Hay on Wye was still a few miles off and a sudden shower had us hastily putting on waterproofs. I had another slip on a steep muddy descent and a bit further on we had a bit of a navigation problem in the middle of a field full of cows, calves and a bull. Was I glad to get out of that field. Hay on Wye is a nice town and also the second hand book store capital of the UK. A nice b&b and a good evening meal finished off the day nicely.
