Food, Flower & Fun Day – Update

The first ever Food, Flower & Fun Day, organised by Tockwith & District Agricultural Society, is due to kick off at 11am,  offering plenty to see and do for the young and not so young.

There is a marquee dedicated to children’s activities, where the kids can join a treasure hunt, milk a cow and have their faces painted, while parents and grandparents admire the children’s entries to the RSPB sponsored painting competition.  Alongside this will be the demonstration marquee, with talks on how to cook a meal using only one pot, one knife and a few twigs, how to make your cakes look really special and what the Spring gardener should be doing.  A local florist will help take a little of the mystique out of her profession by showing how to make an attractive hand-held bouquet – there will even be the odd carnivorous plant on show, but thankfully not in the bouquet!

Those arriving at 11am can enjoy a tasty cooked brunch in the catering marquee, or for those who’ve already breakfasted there will be hot sandwiches, home bakes, hot drinks and much more.

Outside we have a host of stall holders selling bedding plants, cakes and pastries, apple juices, jams, preserves, honey, ice cream, antique garden planters, arts and crafts, bird boxes, garden ornaments, olives, cheeses, scarves, fancy cake decorations and elaborate floral displays.

On the “Fun” front, children joining the Treasure Hunt will try to find where the Crazy Daisies are hidden around the Show Field.   More fun games are being run by the Country Women’s Association and the local Rotary Club, while the Helping Hands charity will have an inflatable Bouncy Castle set up.   Robin Hoods of all ages will get the chance to try out archery, and learn about the countryside and conservation from the RSPB and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.  The Yorkshire Air Ambulance – one of Tockwith Show’s President Sam Blacker ’s chosen charities – will also be there, as will be the Scouts and Guides.

All in all, a fun day is on offer.

Do join us at the Food, Flower & Fun Day on the Show Field, Cattal Moor Lane, Tockwith on Monday 5th May from 11am until 4pm.

Admission – £4 for adults – Children under 16 Free!
